An application can look convincing while leaving important questions unanswered: can it be maintained, who controls its services and what must change before more people depend on it?

What can be assessed?

The review can cover application structure, dependencies, authentication and permissions, data handling, connected services, deployment and maintainability. Tests and operational documentation help establish what is known and what remains uncertain.

We distinguish observed findings from assumptions and items outside the agreed review. A codebase assessment is not automatically a penetration test, compliance certification or guarantee that every defect has been found.

Turn findings into a practical next step

The useful output is a prioritised account of the issues, their implications and the work needed to investigate or address them. We discuss which findings block the intended next step and which can be handled later.

Possible paths include targeted repairs, a staged refactor or a more substantial rebuild. The recommendation should follow the evidence. The fact that code was generated with AI is not, by itself, a reason to discard it.

Evaluation and implementation are separate scopes

An assessment helps decide what work is justified. Remediation can be discussed afterwards, with its own deliverables and acceptance criteria. This keeps the initial review focused on understanding the application rather than silently expanding into a rebuild.

The time and cost depend on the codebase, access, integrations, deployment complexity and depth of review required.

Start with the decision the project needs to support

When customer information moves through several tools, the difficult part is often the handover. A useful project brief explains who receives the information, what they do with it and where the authoritative record should live.
